A few years ago a Terran superweapon (known as the 'nova cannon' which summarily wiped out an entire minmatar invasion fleet in one shot) was destroyed, its fuel source was a quantum entangled material known as isogen-5. Isogen is a common reactive material used in New Eden for warheads and reactors. Isogen-5 however was extremly rare only a special class of blue stars had it naturally. Your remote explosives are probably packed full of isogen.
Well as with all quantum entangled material works, you blow up one you blow all up. So when the terran super weapon was destroyed so was all the isogen-5 in the galaxy, the stars that had them pusled on a level so intensive it shattered New Eden cluster's space time fabric creating rifts that temporary pop in and out of existence aka 'Wormholes'.
Capsuleers quickly found out they can transverse a wormhole and go exploring in these new virgin systems. No star gates, no stations, no civilization. This caused a quite a few problems for those a bit too brave going into a system and the wormhole collapsed behind them, several pilots where literally lost for weeks on end. A few corps even began 'rescue' missions however that was not guaranteed as wormhole destination where just as unpredictable as their creation.
Anyways within these wormhole systems we find ruins of what was once an ancestral race to one of the four in new eden, the sleepers which apparently are ancestral to the highly advanced Jovians. while we found evidence of sleepers in the New Eden cluster its been mostly minor artifacts, like a book, or glass statue or something. We have never found intact stations... labs... colonies... bases like the ones we found in 'wormhole space'. As we continue to dig though a literal sleeper graveyard we found a few disturbing things.
1 They wiped themselves out in a horrible lab accident of sorts and locked themselves into deep quarantine. 2 That was eons ago, and even their cryrostasis technology isn't that good and their bodies did not last that long. 3 They set up watch dogs while they slept in cryostasis while they virtually reality researched a a cure for it while they slept.
These watch dogs are commonly known as sleeper drones (as opposed to drones pilots use and rogue drones that rebelled against the gallente) the size of eve online ships, they are extremely tough, intelligent, hit harder than most capsuleer ships ever can, they certain can out fly anything we have, and despite not having shields take alot of fire power to kill.

BTW Rogue drones eat people. Apparently we make good repair materials. |

As for the game mode its been described as a co-op hunter & horde game.
Hunter as in you get to go find the queen popping out these mechanical freaks.
Horde as in if you don't the waves and waves get much tougher.
Also the waves are reactive, call down a tank and they will plop down some anti-vehicle drones next wave including suicidal sappers and drones that are the size of tanks themselves.
I also heard if your hacking skills are good enough you could turn a few of the drones against their former. |

Its a chat room basically existing before web-pages or aol became popular. Internet Relay Chat is what it stands for. |
